Work Study

Broaden Your Horizons

As part of its ongoing aim to help students get the most out of travelling, the ISTC and its affiliates offer the option of taking part in work, study and cultural exchange programmes. Each year, more than 60,000 students, youth and academic professors participate in programmes around the world.

Why Work Abroad?

Work Abroad

What better way is there to experience a country, its culture and its people than to live there and experience daily life? Through a work abroad programme you can learn more about a new country, gain valuable international work experience and make money to help cover your travel and living expenses.

The possibilities are endless you could teach English in Japan, work in a tourist office in Jamaica, write for a local newspaper in Canada, help orphans in Romania or go on an archaeological dig in Egypt. These are just a few examples of jobs that work exchange participants have had in the past. Click here to read about some first hand experiences.

Working abroad gives you the opportunity to:

"Working in Ghana really broadened my outlook on life, introduced me to a vastly different culture and helped me to appreciate challenges faced by developing countries." Robert Blank, British student working in Ghana.

Turn Travel into Education

If you don't like the idea of working abroad, studying overseas is also encouraged by universities, appreciated by prospective employers and allows you to combine your love of travel with furthering your educational goals.

Opportunities range from spending a semester or summer abroad, to enrolling in an undergraduate or post-graduate course for a full academic year. There are also opportunities for scholarships, grants and financial awards to study abroad.

To find out what programmes are open to you, contact your local study abroad office or local university for information on course options, tuition fees, possibilities for financial support, living expenses and travel costs. Alternatively, you could contact your nearest Student and Youth Travel Office for information on study programmes they may offer.
