Student and Youth Travel Insurance
Travel insurance should be third on your pre-departure checklist right after
passport and ticket. Whether you are visiting friends, studying abroad, working
as an au pair, or just getting away, make sure you are prepared for all eventualities
with a good travel insurance policy.
There are a wide range of insurance policies to choose from and one such
policy is the International Student Insurance Services (ISIS). The ISIS
has been specially developed to meet the flexible schedules and limited
budgets of young, independent travellers. It has several options and is
available from members of the International Association for Student
Insurance Services (IASIS) and many student and youth travel offices
that are part of the ISTC network
Things to remember when you're arranging travel insurance:
- Make sure that your travel insurance is valid for the entire duration of your trip
- Bear in mind that if you need to make a claim, most travel insurance companies require you to have purchased the insurance policy before you leave on your trip
- Most travel insurances include basic medical and accident cover, baggage loss or delay, and trip cancellation, interruption or delay. But specialised insurance policies can vary from country to country so remember to always make sure you know exactly what your policy covers
- If you need insurance to cover you for extreme sports such as winter sports,
scuba-diving or mountain climbing, please ensure that you mention this at
the time of purchase and take out extra insurance cover if necessary.
